Snow Ball Fight

Give a cup filled with cottonballs to each child. Have them stand in a circle. Shout Out "Snoball Fight". The children throw the cottonballs at each other. When they run out of cottonballs in their cup, they can pick up ones off the floor and continue throwing. Then call out "Stop". Have the children pick up all the cottonballs on the floor to refill their cup and start over.

Rudolf Nose

Put white pom pomsand ONE RED POM POM in a bowl or bag and have the children put on a blindfold (or hold the bowl or bag up high so they cannot see inside) and have each child pick out a pom pom. The child who picks the red one is the winner because he/she picked the Rudolf Nose.

Pin the Nose On Rudolf

Blow up a picture of Rudolf (you can use clipart and enlarge it). Cut out a red circle or use a red pom pom and have the children one by one get blindfolded and try to pin Rudolf's nose on him. Whomever is the closest to the nose is the winner.

Snowball the SnowMan

Use an extra large print out of a snowman or metal/wood snowman. Make a line in the floor approx. 10 feet or so (depending on the age of the child) away from the snowman. Have the children form a line behind each other and provide them with three marshmellows. Allow them to take turns standing behind a designated line to toss/throw their marshmellows to try to hit the Snowman.

Random Dance

This is great for young children! Have the kids stand in a circle. Start playing some lively Christmas music and have them begin to dance when it starts. When you turn it off, all the children must freeze EXACTLY where they are (arms in the air, etc.). Walk around and notice how funny the kids look frozen. Then start the music again and yell "Dance". Repeat several times. The kids love to dance and they love to freeze too!

Stuff the Stocking Relay Race

Divide into teams. Have children line up at one end of the room and hang a Christmas stocking at the other end for each team. Place a bowl of candy and a spoon in front of each team. Each child takes a turn taking a candy from the bowl with the spoon. They then carry the candy on the spoon to the stocking and drop the candy in the stocking. Race back to the next person in line, give them the spoon. Of course, the first team to fill the stocking wins!

Rudolf Nose

Cut out red circles approx. 2" around.  Divide the kids into two teams. Given them each a red circle. They can use a small amount of Vaseline on the back of the red circle to make it stick to their nose. Then have them walk (no running) from one end of the room to the other being careful NOT to have the nose fall off. If it falls off, they have to take it back to the beginning and restick and start over. So the trick is to walk fast against another player but not have the nose come off.

Santa Says

This is similar to Simon Says but instead of saying "Simon Says" you say "Santa Says"

All I want for Christmas

Have the children color/draw a picture of one or several things they want for Christmas. It makes a nice keepsake if you date it and put it in their memory book.

Christmas Memory Game

Have the children sit in a circle. Put several Christmas items on a tray and place in the middle of the circle. Pick up the tray and remove one (or several) items without letting the children see which was removed. Put the tray back in the middle of the circle and have the children raise their hand or write down to guess as to what is missing.

A Christmas Story

Have the children sit in a circle. Begin telling a Christmas story (i.e. This is the story of the year Santa Claus was sick). Begin telling a story how Santa Claus was ill and he didn't know how he was going to be able to deliver the presents. Tell a few lines and let the next person continue telling a few lines and then the next adds to it. Pretty soon you have a story which usually ends up being very entertaining!

Christmas Bingo

Printables can ususally be found online

Find Santa's Clothes

Have the children leave the room and hide several items which could be Santa's clothes (i.e. a belt, a red shirt, a santa hat, some black boots, etc.) and have the children come back into the room and see if they can find them.

Christmas Parade

Request that all guest bring a Santa Hat. For the parade, each guest must put on the their hat and make a parade singing Christmas songs or playing instruments.

Decorate Cookies (see the Santa Oreo's below) or Make an ornament.

Pass The Christmas Bags

Children should sit in a circle. Have a brown lunch bag for each child. Inside the bag can be one Christmas item (ornament, picture of a Christmas tree, Christmas candy etc.). In two of the bags put something other than a Christmas item (i.e. Easter egg or pumpkin or a non-Christmas item). Fold the top of the bag over so the children cannot see what is inside their bag. Pass the bags while Christmas music is playing. When you stop the music, have the children stop passing the bags and then open the bag they are holding. If the bag they are holding has a Christmas item inside, they stay in the game. The children with the bags that have non-Christmas items must get out of the circle and watch the rest play. Remove two bags that have Christmas item and continue playing always removing bags but leaving in the two non-Christmas items. You can play it down to one or two winners!

See our Christmas Traditions page for Christmas traditions like starting a Christmas Memory Book or Elf on the Shelf and more:

Kids love Elf on the Shelf.

The tradition -How does Santa know who is naughty or who was nice? The answer, a small pixie-elf. He arrives around the holidays, usually at Thanksgiving. His sole responsibility is to watch the children's behavior and report it to Santa each night. The next morning after the children awake, they can discover the elf returns from the North Pole and is resting in a new and different place in the house. Most children race out of bed to try and be the first to spy him in his new position. They can't touch him but can talk to him.

It helps children to better control themselves. All it takes is a gentle reminder that the "elf is watching," for bad behavior to be modified.

Reindeer Food

Equal parts of oatmeal, sugar and glitter. Mix together and sprinkle outside. If you think real animals (not magical like reindeer) might eat the food, replace glitter with cake sprinkles. Magical reindeer also like apples or carrots.
