It's a New Year

Do you have a family goal? If not, the New Year might be a time to set one together. Could be saving for something specific for the family (new electronic game to play together, TV, vacation, etc.). Make sure the goal is specific so everyone is clear of what it is and how each person can help attain it. Write down the goal and make sure it is displayed (words or a picture) somewhere that everyone can see it regularly. Set a time frame and check on the progress (once a week, possibly on the same day of the week to make a routine of it). This is a great way to teach children the importance of teamwork and setting, monitoring and achieving goals. Books for goal setting

Organize the Family Books/Products/Calendars for Organizing - Family/Kids/House

Teach kids about Money  - Responsibility & Chores:

Read books on Responsibility/Chores (every kid wants to do what their favorite character does)

Make & use chore dice (roll to see who is going to do what),

Set a timer and have races to see who gets done first.

Play lively, upbeat music during chores to keep them fun.Or clean up songs like It's Time To Clean Up or The Little Yellow Bus and Other Mostly Original Children's Songs (which has time to clean up)

Eyeball the toys on the floor, then have a scavenger hunt for those specific things (i.e. who can who can find the stuffed kitty and put him in the toy box?)

For a whiny child that doesn't want to do a chore because it's too hard, tell them," I think you are awesome and you can do it faster then me, so show me".
